FiberHome Hungarian Optical Cable Plant Opens in Kisbér
FiberHome Telecommunication Technologies Co., Ltd. has opened a new optical cable manufacturing facility in Kisbér, Hungary, expanding its European presence in the communications industry. The new ZettaNet base marks a key milestone in Chinese–Hungarian economic cooperation.
According to reports from Xinhua News and Evertiq, FiberHome invested approximately €20 million in the project, with 15% of the funding contributed by the Hungarian government.
A Strategic Step for FiberHome’s European Expansion
Until now, FiberHome served European customers through distributors. The new facility establishes a direct manufacturing hub in Central Europe. The Kisbér plant, employing about 120 people, will produce high-performance optical cables for clients such as Magyar Telekom and MVM.
This move strengthens supply chains and helps FiberHome meet the growing demand for faster, more reliable communications equipment in Europe.
Strengthening Innovation through ZettaNet
Zeng Jun, Chairman of FiberHome, called the launch of the ZettaNet base a “landmark achievement.” He explained that the facility leverages FiberHome’s deep expertise in fiber optic communication to create a technological, research, and logistics hub for the European market.
“This new ZettaNet base is FiberHome’s first self-invested industrial entity built in Europe,” said Zeng Jun. “It represents our commitment to localizing innovation and delivering advanced optical communication solutions to European partners.”
Rapid Completion Showcases Efficiency and Cooperation
Chinese Ambassador to Hungary Gong Tao praised the project for being completed and operational in less than a year. He highlighted that the achievement demonstrates both the efficiency of Chinese enterprises and the trust and cooperation between China and Hungary.
The swift development underscores Hungary’s supportive investment climate and China’s expanding industrial participation in Europe’s telecommunications landscape.
Background: From Sumitomo to FiberHome’s European Expansion
According to Schoenherr, an Austrian law firm advising Chengdu Datang Communication Cable Co.—a member of the FiberHome Group—the 25,000-square-meter industrial property was previously owned by Sumitomo Electric Wiring Systems Limited, a division of the Japanese Sumitomo Group.
Listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange, FiberHome holds more than 4,000 patents and operates industrial bases across Wuhan, South America, South Asia, and North Africa. The addition of its Hungarian optical cable facility further solidifies its position as a leading global provider of telecommunications infrastructure.
