LS GreenLink Expands Global Cable Manufacturing
LS GreenLink, a subsidiary of LS Cable & System Ltd., plans to build a high-voltage submarine power cable plant in the United States. The project forms part of the company’s long-term strategy to expand its global manufacturing capabilities and strengthen its foothold in the offshore energy sector.
Driving Early Market Advantage
The company did not disclose details about the plant’s exact size or workforce. However, LS GreenLink aims to capitalize on its early entry into the U.S. submarine cable market. Currently, only one European company operates such a facility in the country. By entering early, LS GreenLink expects to gain a strong competitive edge while also exploring opportunities to build similar plants in Europe and Vietnam.
Backed by U.S. Department of Energy Support
The United States Department of Energy (DOE) awarded LS GreenLink a $99.06 million investment tax credit under Section 48C of the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022. This funding will accelerate the project and help the company respond to the growing global demand for submarine power cables.
Daniel Ko, head of LS Cable & System’s Global Submarine Cable System Division, explained that the DOE support will allow LS GreenLink to address key supply chain challenges affecting the U.S. offshore wind industry. “This investment positions LS GreenLink to help meet increasing market needs while boosting U.S. manufacturing capacity,” he said.
Strengthening Offshore Wind Infrastructure
The new plant will play a vital role in expanding America’s offshore wind capabilities. LS GreenLink plans to deliver advanced cable solutions that enable large-scale renewable projects and energy transmission networks. The investment also supports the company’s goal to become a global leader in submarine power systems.
Continuing a Global Growth Strategy
With over 6,450 employees and 35 subsidiaries in 17 countries, LS Cable & System continues to grow worldwide. The company is now in the final stages of reviewing the site and investment scale for its new U.S. factory. Once complete, the LS GreenLink project will strengthen both the company’s supply chain and the domestic offshore wind industry.
