South Korea’s Taihan Cable & Solution won a project worth more than $80 million to replace an outdated power grid in Florida. The company will help upgrade critical transmission infrastructure as power demand in the region continues to grow.
The Taihan Florida power grid replacement project will replace aging lines with a new 230 kV extra-high-voltage (EHV) network. Taihan will remove existing cables and deliver a full turnkey service that covers design, supply, installation, and final commissioning.
Taihan’s strong U.S. project history helped it secure the Taihan Florida power grid replacement project. The company submitted a focused proposal to replace aging power grids and improve reliability, which encouraged the customer to move the project forward.
Previously, in a New York project, Taihan introduced a patented installation method tailored to dense urban environments. This unique cable-laying approach showed that Taihan can adapt to challenging conditions and still deliver efficient, high-quality installations.
By winning the Taihan Florida power grid replacement project, the company increased its cumulative U.S. order value for the year to more than $145 million. In just one quarter, Taihan has already achieved about half of its record annual U.S. orders from fiscal year 2022, which totaled nearly $290 million.
Across the country, rising electricity consumption and the growth of renewable energy drive new demand for modern transmission networks. At the same time, over 50% of existing U.S. transmission infrastructure has been in service for more than 40 years, which creates strong expectations for additional replacement and upgrade projects.
