NKT SR Energy Cable Project Boosts Sweden’s Renewable Growth

The NKT SR Energy cable project represents a key step in strengthening Sweden’s renewable energy capacity. NKT will supply advanced power cables to SR Energy for a new wind farm featuring 15 modern turbines.

Kanonaden Entreprenad, the project developer, will install NKT’s AXAL-TT PRO 3.0 and AXALJ-TT EQV 36 kV cables. These high-performance products will ensure stable connections between the turbines and the national grid. The farm, located in a forested and hilly area currently used for commercial forestry, will help deliver clean power to homes and businesses across the region.

Reliable Power Connections Across Challenging Terrain

NKT will deliver 40 kilometers of cable from its factory in Falun, Sweden. The AXAL-TT PRO 3.0 connects each turbine to a nearby cable station. Meanwhile, the AXALJ-TT EQV cable links the substation directly to the larger power grid.

Wind turbine deliveries will begin in May 2024, and installation is expected to continue through fall the same year. However, because the turbines stand over 200 meters tall, weather conditions will determine when construction crews can complete the final phases of the project.

Advanced Cable Design Improves Installation and Durability

Mikael Åkerlund, NKT’s Key Account Manager, explained that the AXAL-TT PRO 3.0 includes a jacket up to four times stronger than standard cables. The innovative design features deformation zones that absorb pressure from rocks and uneven terrain.

As a result, the cable can be installed directly into existing ground material without requiring full trench preparation. This approach not only saves time but also reduces environmental impact, a crucial factor in sustainable energy development.

A Durable Partnership for a Sustainable Grid

The NKT SR Energy cable project highlights both companies’ shared commitment to safe, resilient, and sustainable energy infrastructure. Furthermore, the collaboration supports Sweden’s broader goals of modernizing its electrical grid and reducing carbon emissions.

By combining durable cable technology with smart installation practices, NKT and SR Energy are paving the way for the continued growth of clean energy throughout Northern Europe.
