Prysmian Group Commissions Inter‑Array Cable System for Fécamp Offshore Wind Farm
Prysmian Group has successfully commissioned the inter‑array cable system for the Fécamp offshore wind farm. The site lies in the English Channel, about 24 km off the coast of Normandy, France. This major milestone strengthens Prysmian’s position as a global leader in submarine cable solutions for renewable energy projects.
Enhancing France’s Offshore Wind Power
The Fécamp offshore wind farm includes 71 turbines that produce nearly 500 MW of clean energy. Together, they can power hundreds of thousands of French homes. EDF Renewables and its partners awarded Prysmian Group the contract in 2020. The project reinforces France’s growing commitment to renewable energy and its transition toward a low‑carbon economy.
Prysmian’s Full‑Scope EPCI Delivery
This project marks one of France’s first large‑scale offshore wind farms, where Prysmian Group had full Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Installation (EPCI) responsibility for the inter‑array cable system. According to Alberto Boffelli, COO of Projects BU, this achievement demonstrates Prysmian’s ability to manage complex offshore projects from start to finish.
Prysmian provided a one‑stop‑shop solution, taking on the design, manufacture, installation, burial, termination, and testing of the system. The work involved 118 km of 33 kV submarine cables with 630 mm² cross‑sections and both aluminum and copper cores. These cables connect the 71 turbines, each generating 7 MW, to the offshore substation, ensuring reliable energy transmission to the French grid.
Strengthening Long‑Term Industry Partnerships
This latest success also highlights EDF Renewables’ continued trust in Prysmian’s offshore capabilities. The two companies have already collaborated on other key French wind projects, including St. Nazaire and Calvados offshore wind farms. With this new commission, Prysmian continues to play a crucial role in advancing France’s renewable energy infrastructure and Europe’s broader energy transition goals.
