LS Cable & System TenneT HVDC Contract Secures Multi‑Year Work
LS Cable & System (lscns.com) in South Korea has signed a major contract with TenneT Offshore to supply high‑voltage direct current (HVDC) cables worth about 1.5 trillion won (around $1.2 billion). This deal strengthens the company’s position in Europe’s fast‑growing offshore wind grid market.
Consortium to Connect North Sea Wind to Germany
LS Cable & System formed a consortium with Belgian construction firms Jan De Nul (jandenul.com) and Denys (denys.com). Together, they will deliver four grid connection projects that link North Sea offshore wind to Germany.
Under two contracts, LS Cable & System will supply submarine and underground HVDC cables, with deliveries starting in 2026. In addition, the other two projects should follow, with awards expected sequentially through 2026, creating a strong multi‑year pipeline.
Part of 65 GW North Sea Offshore Wind Build‑Out
These projects form part of a 2022 agreement among Denmark, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany to install 65 gigawatts (GW) of offshore wind capacity by 2030. As part of this plan, TenneT will help build grid connections designed to deliver green wind energy to up to 35 million homes.
By providing HVDC cable systems for these links, LS Cable & System helps move large volumes of offshore wind power into mainland grids and supports Europe’s wider energy transition.
LS Cable & System’s Role in the HVDC Market
An LS Cable & System official noted that global power grid projects continue to grow. However, HVDC cable systems still require large investments and advanced technical expertise. Therefore, only a small group of global cable manufacturers, including LS Cable & System, currently supplies most of this specialized market.
The LS Cable & System TenneT HVDC contract further reinforces the company’s leadership in HVDC technology and expands its presence in strategic European offshore wind and transmission projects.
