Italy‑based Danieli (https://www.danieli.com) supplies technology and equipment for Alter Steel’s new electric steel plant in Pinkenba, Queensland, Australia, anchoring the Danieli greenfield electric steel mill for Alter Steel in Queensland project. Alter Steel plans to invest about $750 million in this landmark long‑products facility.

Danieli uses its MIDA QLP – Quality Long Product technology with the Digimelter and Q‑One power feeder to enable low‑carbon electric steelmaking. The plant produces about 500,000 metric tons per year of rebar, wire rod, hot‑rolled mesh, spooled coil, and bar, all from steel scrap.

The mill runs an endless casting‑rolling process and removes billet reheating. This configuration can cut energy use by up to 75% and improve overall operating efficiency.

According to Green Steel World, Alter Steel targets late 2027 for completion and already holds Conditional Development Approval. The Danieli greenfield electric steel mill for Alter Steel in Queensland project can run on 100% renewable energy and aims for about 0.37 metric tons of CO2 per tonne of steel, roughly 80% less than traditional blast furnaces.
