Italtrecce Srl, a subsidiary of International Wire Group (IWG), has acquired Special Corde Srl, a specialty conductor manufacturer based in Gioia Sannitica, Italy. This deal expands IWG’s presence in high-value electrical applications while supporting the fast-growing global demand for electrification.
Special Corde, founded in 2001, produces conductors used in power and distribution transformers, electric motors, and other industrial electrical systems. With this acquisition, Italtrecce adds Special Corde’s high-quality products to IWG’s grid and industrial solutions portfolio. As a result, the company now serves a broader customer base with greater efficiency and technical depth.
IWG CEO Gregory Smith said the acquisition strengthens the company’s role in critical electrical infrastructure projects. As global electrification accelerates, transformers play an essential part in grid modernization efforts. Smith noted that Special Corde’s advanced conductor technology will directly support these projects while enhancing IWG’s long-term customer relationships.
Furthermore, Smith highlighted that this acquisition—along with other recent IWG expansions—positions the group to meet worldwide energy transition demands more effectively.
Dino Grandi, General Manager of Special Corde, expressed his excitement about joining a global brand like IWG. He explained that combining resources with an international leader creates new possibilities for innovation, quality, and growth. Meanwhile, both companies plan to continue driving forward the electrification movement through advanced manufacturing and technical collaboration.
Together, Italtrecce, Special Corde, and International Wire Group aim to strengthen global supply chains for high-performance wires and cables while supporting cleaner, more sustainable electrical networks worldwide.
