Alphagary, a division of Orbia Polymer Solutions, now markets ESCONTEL semi-conductive compounds from India-based Shakun Polymers across North America and the wider Americas. In addition, Alphagary provides funding so Shakun can expand capacity and streamline its production processes.
Shakun joined the Orbia group in May 2021 and continued serving customers in India and other regions. Now, Alphagary helps introduce these compounds to new customers throughout the Americas.
Under the new plan, Shakun expects to grow its capacity from about 35,000 TPA to nearly 100,000 TPA. This larger base supports rising demand for semi-conductive and specialty cable compounds.
Shakun will manufacture all compounds outside the U.S. and then ship ESCONTEL products into North America. Moreover, it can supply ESCONTEK into Central America when customers request it.
Shakun focuses on halogen-free, flame-retardant compounds and PVC-based compounds designed for data and power cables. These materials directly complement Alphagary’s specialty product offerings that support a more connected world.
By adding Shakun’s semi-conductive and cross-linkable compounds, Alphagary expands its portfolio and builds a stronger growth platform. This combination helps meet evolving customer needs for performance, safety, and regulatory compliance.
ESCONTEK compounds meet multiple industry standards when processors apply sound material handling, extrusion, and cross-linking practices. These standards include UL 1072, ANSI/ICEA, AEIC, IEC, BS, and others used across medium- and high-voltage cable applications.
This level of compliance helps cable manufacturers design products that align with both North American and international specifications while leveraging Shakun and Alphagary’s combined expertise.
