The UK Infrastructure Bank XLCC funding package provides approximately $22.3 million to XLCC, a high‑voltage direct current (HVDC) subsea cable manufacturer, to build a new factory in Hunterston, Scotland. This investment strengthens the UK’s clean energy supply chain and supports future large‑scale interconnector projects.

The agreement includes an option to increase the funding to as much as three times the initial amount, subject to project requirements. This flexible structure helps XLCC develop a plant capable of producing thousands of kilometers of HVDC subsea cable each year.

Plans for the Hunterston facility call for around 900 permanent jobs, plus many apprenticeships that will build local expertise in advanced manufacturing and project management. XLCC CEO Ian Douglas notes that the project will deliver significant long‑term investment into the U.K. economy, and the company has already raised about $45 million toward the factory.
