AFL Fiber Optic Manufacturing Growth in Duncan

AFL plans to expand all of its fiber optic cable manufacturing operations in Duncan, South Carolina. This growth supports rising demand for fiber infrastructure and, moreover, aligns with public and private investments in broadband deployment.

Earlier, in March, AFL announced more than $50 million in additional investment to expand its Spartanburg County operations. That project specifically supports AFL’s portfolio of Build America, Buy America Act (BABA) compliant products, helping customers meet federal requirements for U.S. infrastructure funding.

AFL Product Portfolio and Global Reach

AFL, a subsidiary of Japan-based Fujikura, Ltd., offers fiber optic cable, hardware, and transmission and substation accessories. The company markets these products to customers in about 130 countries, and it serves telecommunications, electric utility, enterprise, and industrial sectors.

With this latest expansion, AFL increases its capacity to deliver fiber optic solutions that support grid modernization, data centers, and high-speed broadband networks worldwide. Consequently, the company strengthens both regional and global network infrastructure.

AFL’s History and Presence in Duncan

Alcoa Securities Corporation, a subsidiary of ALCOA, and Fujikura Ltd. formed AFL on November 2, 1984. The Duncan facility manufactures fiber optic ground wire and entrance cables for the public utility industry and now serves as a core production hub.

In 2005, Fujikura took full ownership of AFL and moved its headquarters to Duncan, South Carolina. Since then, AFL has continued to invest locally, expand capacity, create jobs, and support advanced fiber infrastructure worldwide.
