Bridon-Bekaert and ABB Partner to Advance Mine Hoist Services Worldwide
Bridon-Bekaert Ropes Group (BBRG) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ABB to jointly develop advanced service capabilities for mine hoist systems at ABB’s customer sites across the world. The new collaboration focuses on technology integration, operational safety, and long-term equipment performance.
Expanding Global Reach Through Bridon-Bekaert ABB Mine Hoist Partnership
ABB operates more than 600 active mine hoists globally. With this partnership, BBRG and ABB aim to bring combined expertise directly to customers across Australia, Europe, China, and North America. Together, the companies will focus on enhanced safety, productivity, and sustainability for mine operations.
The partnership combines ABB’s automation and hoisting technologies with BBRG’s advanced rope monitoring solutions. This joint approach will improve uptime and reduce risk by implementing preventative maintenance, equipment inspections, and inventory optimization for key components.
Introducing Smart Technology for Predictive Maintenance
Under the Bridon-Bekaert ABB mine hoist partnership, both companies will integrate their specialized technologies into a unified maintenance solution.
BBRG will contribute its VisionTek condition monitoring system, which continuously assesses rope performance and structural integrity. Meanwhile, ABB will bring its ABB Ability™ Smart Hoisting platform — a suite of digital tools designed for mine hoist monitoring and optimization.
Together, these systems provide a robust predictive maintenance model. They generate real-time insights, allowing mine operators to prevent unplanned downtime, extend asset life, and improve overall efficiency.
A Shared Goal of Safety and Sustainability
Both ABB and Bridon-Bekaert share a long-standing commitment to improving safety standards and environmental performance in industrial operations. This collaboration represents a proactive move toward smarter mining, combining state-of-the-art digitalization with high-performance materials and data-driven decision-making.
By uniting their expertise, ABB and Bridon-Bekaert aim to deliver solutions that optimize hoist system performance while helping mining companies operate more sustainably and safely.
