Hellenic Cables Expands Offshore Wind Presence

Hellenic Cables has won a major contract to design, manufacture, transport, and install four 220 kV HVAC export cables. These cables will connect the Baltyk II and Baltyk III offshore wind farms in the Polish Baltic Sea to the mainland power grid.

Connecting Baltyk II and III to Poland’s Energy Network

The Baltyk II and Baltyk III projects come from a joint venture between Equinor and Polenergia. Each wind farm will produce 720 MW of clean energy. Together, they will help power thousands of Polish homes and businesses.

In total, the two projects will link to the shore through four submarine HVAC cables stretching 256 km. These cables will deliver renewable energy directly from the Baltic Sea to Poland’s onshore grid.

Driving Poland’s Renewable Energy Transition

Baltyk II and Baltyk III will rank among Poland’s first large-scale offshore wind farms. They represent a milestone in the country’s effort to grow its renewable power capacity and reduce carbon emissions.

Hellenic Cables is partnering with the Jan De Nul Group, which will handle the offshore installation. Together, the companies aim to strengthen Poland’s energy infrastructure and advance the shift toward sustainable electricity.

Partnership Recognition and Industry Expertise

“We are proud that Equinor and Polenergia chose us for these important projects,” said Wouter Vermeersch, Manager Offshore Cables at Jan De Nul Group. “Their trust confirms the strong offshore capabilities of both Jan De Nul and Hellenic Cables.”

Project Manufacturing and Timeline

The consortium plans to complete the grid connection for both wind farms by 2026. Meanwhile, Hellenic Cables will design and produce the 220 kV HVAC export cables at its state-of-the-art facility in Corinth, Greece.

In addition, the project highlights the company’s continued growth in Europe’s offshore wind sector. As a result, Hellenic Cables reinforces its role as a leading global supplier supporting the renewable energy transition.
