Hengtong Egypt Fiber Optic Expansion Announced

Hengtong, one of China’s largest fiber optic cable manufacturers, plans to expand its factory in the China-Egypt TEDA zone within Egypt’s Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE). The Hengtong Egypt fiber optic expansion will support fast-growing demand for telecom and national infrastructure projects across the country.

Investment, Capacity Goals, and Site Details

Hengtong intends to invest $18 million in this expansion so it can produce up to two million km of optical cables per year. This new phase builds on an agreement with the SCZONE authority, which oversees industrial and logistics development in the region.

Under the pact, Hengtong will add around 21,000 sq m to its existing facility in the Sokhna Industrial Zone, a key part of SCZONE that supports light, medium, and heavy manufacturing as well as commercial and business activities across an area of about 210 km.

Supporting Egyptian Telecom and National Projects

The additional capacity from the Hengtong Egypt fiber optic expansion will supply cables for major Egyptian national projects, including the Decent Life Initiative, and for the state-owned telecom operator Telecom Egypt (telecomegypt.com.eg). These projects aim to strengthen digital infrastructure, expand broadband access, and improve connectivity for communities across Egypt.

Hengtong’s first factory phase in SCZONE began operations in March 2023 with an initial investment of $6 million. The new expansion phase builds on that foundation and further anchors Hengtong’s presence in Egypt’s strategic industrial corridor.
