Nokia completed the sale of Alcatel Submarine Networks (ASN) to the French State on Dec. 31, 2024, officially transferring ownership of the subsea cable business. The French State manages its new stake through the Agence des participations de l’État, reinforcing national control over strategic digital infrastructure.
During the transition phase, Nokia retains a 20% shareholding in ASN and continues to hold representation on the company’s board. The French State plans to acquire Nokia’s remaining interest over time, which will eventually bring ASN fully under state ownership.
Alcatel Submarine Networks reports on its website that it has delivered approximately 750,000 km of optical submarine cable systems worldwide, serving operators, cloud providers and content players. This extensive footprint positions ASN as a key player in global subsea connectivity and international data traffic.
