SPS to rebuild destroyed plant, plans to reopen it by 2028

A fire on February 17 destroyed over 80% of SPS Technologies’s 560,000-square-foot aerospace fastener plant in Jenkintown, PA. Parent firm Precision Castparts Corp will rebuild, planning a 350,000-square-foot LEED-certified site by early 2028, rehiring some displaced employees and enhancing fire safety and environmental protections.

The probe involves 11 cable makers and may lead to fines, with a decision expected in six to twelve months. NKT is also being reviewed by Czech regulators, with outcomes still pending.
