LS Cable & System to diversify in the U.S. via a rare-earth magnet plant in Virginia

LS Cable & System will invest $689 million in three advanced manufacturing projects in Chesapeake, Virginia, including a rare-earth magnet plant. The company aims to strengthen U.S. electrification supply chains and expand into strategic materials. The plan builds on LS GreenLink USA, which will produce HV subsea and land cables starting in 2027.

Sumitomo wins contract for U.K. project

Sumitomo Electric will supply and install 140 km of 525 kV HVDC subsea cable for National Grid’s 2 GW Sea Link project between Kent and Suffolk. The route will run through the Thames Estuary and southern North Sea. Sumitomo will manufacture the cable at Port of Nigg in Scotland, starting in 2027.

Chinese company plans to open its 1st conductor production plant in Europe

Gold Cup Wire will invest about $100 million to build its first European magnetic conductor plant in Planá u Mariánských Lázní, Czechia. The facility will produce up to 20,000 tons annually for transformers, motors, renewables, and EV systems. Automation will support growth to 200 jobs by 2028.
